We opted for camping this past weekend, and made the journey up to Laurel Hill State Park in PA, located just outside of Somerset. Getting anywhwere on a Friday afternoon in the DC area is a feat in and of it's own. I don't know why more people don't drink and drive since you sit for hours, and don't go anywhere (joking, no offense). I loved how PA DOT closed down I70 down to one lane so that we could all sit and waste gas, all while waiting to file down into one lane and not seeing one worker the entire construction zone. Enough griping. It was a beautiful state park, great facilities.
The lake was manmade, and was created by damning up a local stream. Since the trees appear to be very close to old growth, the streams were covered with a lot of shade, were very cold and contained trout.
The trip also gave us a chance to see what trailer camping was like. After all my years of tent camping, it was nice to have a little more space to stretch out and relax a little.
I give my inlaws a lot of credit for having the hearts of a 20yr old. They drove all the way from MI to go camping with their grandson. We all had a good time, including Robert. It was extremely nice to not have one mosquito the whole time we were camping.
